This what you started with:
Yidela watched her companion as he cleaned his bow, lovingly wiping dirt from the silvery wood's surface. Bireyen was always so careful with his weapon, as if it were a child that needed to be treated with the utmost care; she admired him for his caution. Contrary to him, Yidela often broke her bows, and constantly had to replace them. She was in no way as agile as her friend.
Now here is what I will add on:
Bireyen looked up at her and smiled. She felt a rush of heat flow through her body as she looked away. She continued to cook their evening meal over the fire as the sun began to sink over the horizon. She looked around their small make-shift camp. It consisted of two tents (because sharing one would just be weird), a fire "pit", and a post to tie up their two horses with.

"Yidela," Bireyen said, watching her, "Do you think there will be any shadow beasts tonight?"
Yidela looked up in alarm at her companion, growing pale at the thought. Shadow beasts were terrible creatures spawned from human nightmares that took form on nights of the full moon at midnight. They were terrible pests that roamed the countryside killing livestock and, on occasion, people.

Bireyen must have seen her look of alarm because he smiled assuringly and said, "You don't need to worry. I can protect you." Yidela felt a rush of frustration and care at the same time. She made sure her next thought came out right and said gently, "I know. But you also know that I can take care of myself, right?" Bireyen's smile widened into a grin and he laughed. "Of course! I'd feel sorry for anyone, or anything, that crossed you!" Yidela felt a rush of pride at his words.
